The Jamaica Veterinary Association was founded in 1946 by a small group of veterinary professionals working in Jamaica. The name was later changed in 1984 to the “Jamaica Veterinary Medical Association”, but the current Association is the same body that was born in 1946 and it is thus one of the oldest professional organisations in the Caribbean.
